YOU ARE NOT THE BEAUTY STANDARD.

And that’s okay.

Like it or not, there will always be an “ideal” beauty standard. That’s just the way society operates. I don’t believe in trying to tear it down entirely – to me, that feels unrealistic. But what I do believe is that we break free from the shackles, embrace our uniqueness, and show our middle fingers.

Who sets these standards? And why?

Oh boy… I really picked a nuanced topic that has so many layers we’d be here for days.

Long story short:
Capitalism, classism, racism aaaand… your judgemental aunty.

Beauty standards weren’t created in a vacuum. They’ve been shaped by generations of power structures, marketing strategies, eurocentric ideals, and profit-hungry industries who realised early on that if they could convince women they weren’t enough, they’d have loyal customers for life.

The “standard” changes every decade, anyway. Thin eyebrows one day, thick the next. Size zero then, curvy now. The goalposts keep moving so that we keep buying: skincare, shapewear, serums, silence.

And don’t get me started on cultural erasure – how traits shamed in some communities are suddenly trendy once adopted by those in power. You’re not the problem, girl. You’re just not ‘in’ right now.

Let’s be honest: the only constant in beauty standards is that they’re exclusive and exhausting.

So instead of chasing that moving target, maybe we just… tap out?

Stop performing for a society that profits from your insecurity. Wear the damn dress. Skip the contour. Go full glam if it makes you feel good. But don’t you dare do it for them.

EVERYONE brings their own beauty to this world. That beauty might not satisfy 90% of people, and so what? F*CK em! Why should that get in the way of how YOU feel about yourself and how YOU move through life? You set your own standards.

So no, you are not the beauty standard, and that’s pretty f***in’ awesome.
